June Lake Beach: A Crowd Favorite
The most popular beach area in the June Lake Loop is June Lake Beach. With a sandy shoreline, picnic tables, and easy lake access, it is perfect for a full beach day. It is also the only officially sanctioned swimming lake in the loop. If you feel like taking a break from swimming in the clear alpine water, play a game of beach volleyball, or float on inflatables or tubes. You can also go kayaking or paddleboarding before watching the sunset over the Sierra Nevada.
If you do plan on visiting, keep in mind that parking/day-use fees apply during the summer. Also, try to arrive early on the weekends to secure parking. Don’t be surprised if the water is still cool even in warmer months.
Gull Lake: A Hidden Gem
Because Gull Lake is smaller than June Lake, it is a great option for those looking for a less-crowded and more peaceful option. While there is no large sandy beach, there are still shoreline areas perfect for relaxing and wading into the water. In addition to being a calm swimming spot, Gull Lake is ideal for kayaking, canoeing, fishing, and enjoying a lakeside picnic. This is also an ideal location for sunrise or sunset photography.
Silver Lake: A Scenic Spot
One of the most scenic lakes in the area is Silver Lake. Surrounded by dramatic mountain backdrops, this spot is popular for boating, fishing, and sightseeing, rather than traditional beach activities. However, there are areas along the shoreline where visitors can relax near the water. Thanks to the nearby hiking trails, you can easily enjoy dry land and aquatic fun.
